Boats and activities on the water have been a longtime enjoyment of many people and any opportunity that presents itself you will be hard pressed to find someone to say no to a day out on the river or the ocean. In most cases a person that owns a boat either stores it or parks it at their home, lives on it full or part time, or leaves it at a marina. One such person is Edward Smits, whose Holiday Manson Houseboat is parked in a local Vancouver marina that he uses as a home away from home when in town for long stays after business trips.
Putting a few friends together and getting the necessary supplies Ed and his friends drove to the marina eager to climb aboard, start the motor and get the boat out in more open waters. Upon arriving at the marina and loading the guests and the supplies one of his friends, Tom Hewson informed him that the doors were locked. Fumbling through his keys Edward found the correct set for the boat, tossed them to Tom and as they sailed directly over Tom's head and into the murky water, a collective sigh could be heard from them all.
Edward wasn't too nervous about it because he knew he had a spare engine key on the key chain he used for his car and house keys and this was a relief until he realized that the engine key was not a suitable substitute for the door key.
While disappointment permeated the air of a great day boating about to be lost, Tom's girlfriend, Sandra remembered about a friend of a friend who was out with them last week and had accidentally locked her keys in her car when they were at a downtown Vancouver restaurant for happy hour. She mentioned that the locksmith got there "really fast" and in no time the woman was off and away after the locksmith open the car for her. Most liked the idea but were unsure if a locksmith can open doors on boats, but it was certainly worth a shot if it meant the boating adventure could begin. Armed with a cell phone and the 411 information line from the cell provider Edward was able to get the number of a locksmith that said he would have no problems taking care of his situation.
The locksmith sent out a technician who opened the doors with his lock pick gun and using a blank was able to make new keys for all the ones that were lost in the water due to Edwards overthrow, plus an extra set for him should he need them again.
Everyone felt comfortable and happy with the locksmith, and of course relieved to continue their day, but also were able to learn that while a locksmith is mostly thought of for auto, home and building security needs, those locks, doors, ignitions and hardware on a boat can be serviced by a professional locksmith, as well.
